The Trump phenomenon's most telling and defining instances – not its most important, nor most harsh, nor most hazardous, nor most foolish, but perhaps its most illuminating – came earlier this autumn. He has done things countless times more severe – the current estimate of deaths due to his slashing to foreign assistance is 600,000 and rising, and presently a study projected his petroleum strategies would cause deaths an additional 1.3 million. Yet nothing as characteristic. No other president would have risked – genuinely, no other president would have imagined – solo demolishing major areas of the White House to build a palace-inspired entertainment space, with the enthusiastic participation of some of America's wealthiest, the majority of whom maintain dealings with federal agencies.

We have observed over the years as rightwing evangelical churches converted the Savior we learned about into the total contrary of our perception of his character. A Struggle for the Highest of Us

Hence I have become encouraged to witness the persistent defiance against Trump develop in this past year.
