This Satirical Thriller
Coralie Fargeat's daring satire addresses the tyranny of women's appearance as well as the dreaded aspects of growing older. Presence
The acclaimed director challenges his creative boundaries through this nifty ghostly tale captured wholly through the eyes of a ghost. When a household with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe settles into their new suburban house, the lens – as the unseen entity – tracks their movements. The teen shows signs of aware of the ghostly being, and it seems defensive toward her. However, the motive remains? This is an entertaining concept that remains concise, with a twist that may be unexpected. This Saturday, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
Cage embraces his cult stardom in this autobiographical spoof. He portrays a self-obsessed Hollywood actor named Nicolas Cage who accepts a lucrative offer to attend a festive event in Mallorca for the wealthy superfan Javi. Hired by the CIA to gather intel on the alleged criminal, his “nouveau shamanic acting ability” comes in handy. Saturday 11 October, prime time, on Channel 4
This Creepy Thriller
The director's claustrophobic thriller stands strong despite the lack of a sequel. Located in 1978 Denver, a series of kidnappings has left the children anxious. After Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and imprisoned in a cellar, he dreads a fatal end. But the disconnected phone mounted nearby continues to ring, with spooky callers giving advice, as the prophetic visions from his sibling Gwen may be his salvation. A solid creepfest. October 11th, late evening, on Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for greed in Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top film adaptation regarding the shamed religious broadcaster and her felon spouse. The actor plays the greedy Jim, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye commence profiting from the people's spiritual convictions. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, though the lead actress succeeds to depict the character with compassion. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, Film4
The Spy Mystery
This period's additional entry from the filmmaker presents a spy mystery as sharp like the turtlenecks worn by Fassbender's UK spy. His assignment is to identify a traitor within their ranks from a group of five – one of whom is his own wife. Each performer are masters of calm composure, so a delicious psychological game of fact versus fiction develops. Additional actors take part the intelligent intelligence fun. This Friday, 8.05am, 12.55pm, 8pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
